Months after the 21-year-old boyfriend of Sasia Adams was charged with manslaughter, the police are still not ready to proceed with their case in court.
When the matter was called on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, Prosecutor Quinn Harris announced that the file against Rick Sewcharran is still incomplete.
As a result, the Magistrate adjourned the matter until September 6th for a report on the file.
Sewcharran, of 143 Section A, Block Y, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, is accused of unlawfully killing Adams on June 10th, at Lamaha Street, Georgetown.
He has not been required to plea to the indictable charge of manslaughter, which was read to him two months ago.
He has been released bail in the sum of $500,000.
Previous reports indicate that Adams, a resident of East Street, Georgetown, was rushed to Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital around 8.30 pm on the night in question, with severe head injuries.
She had been taken to the hospital by Sewcharran.
Upon arrival, the young woman who was conscious, reportedly related to officials that she sustained her injuries following a fall at home.
Police had, however, said that Sewcharran had given conflicting stories of how the 19-year-old had sustained her injuries—one of which had been that she had jumped out of his car.
The girl’s relatives have, however, refuted that claim, stating that she would never have jumped out of a moving vehicle.
