Guyana’s junior racket wielders failed to grab a medal in the singles category of the ongoing Caribbean Under-11 and Under13 table tennis championships currently being played in the Dominican Republic.
Guyana’s Jonathan Van Lange advanced the furthest, reaching the quarterfinals of the boys Under – 13 category before he was stopped by Marcos Tavares of the Dominican Republic A in straight sets 9-11, 9-11, 8-11.
Van Lange, in the round of 16 had defeated Ting Bo Chen 11-13, 11-5, 11-3, 11-7.
Meanwhile his doubles silver medallist partner, Kaysan Ninvalle lost to Jamaali Mauge of Trinidad and Tobago 7-11, 6-11, 13 – 11, 4-11 in round of 16.
The Guyanese girls who contested in the girls under – 13 category also suffered first and second round defeats.
Nkechi McCrae after defeating Vianny Garcia 11-6, 11-5, 15-13 in their round of 16 encounter, lost to the eventual winner Priyanka Khellwan of the Twin Island Republic in the quarter-final, 4-11, 6-11, 5-11.
Thuraia Thomas was knocked out by Khellwan in her round of 16 match.
Guyana’s under – 11 boys also endured a tough outing with Colin Wong and Dhanesh Persaud both losing in the quarter-finals.
Wong, who defeated Eliam Davila of Puerto Rico 3-1 (10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 13-11), failed to get past Sebastian Rivera of Puerto Rico after taking the first set 11-9, he lost the next three games at 5-11, 0-11,7-11.
Persaud, on the other hand, downed Gari Whyte of Jamaica but lost to the eventual winner Rafael Cabrera of the Dominican Republic 8-11, 6-11, 11-5 and 13-15.
Jasmine Billingy, the lone Guyanese to advance through to the girls under – 11 knock out round, lost to Shary Munoz of the Dominican Republic 3-11, 3-11, 4-11 in her lone match.
