Accused of stealing $5,000 from an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture, an ex-convict was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of break and enter and larceny.
Rico Persaud, 25, who is a regular visitor to the city courts for simple larceny matters, was yesterday read the charge by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The charge alleges that the accused on August 24th, at Vlissengen Road, Bourda, broke and entered the Agriculture Sector Development Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture and stole $5,000, which was the property of Christine Kissoon.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The prosecutor stated that on the day of the crime the complainant left her handbag in the office and went to the kitchen but when she returned she observed that it was missing. Checks were then made and the bag was found in the male toilet.
CCTV footage later showed the accused leaving a bus and entering the compound of the Ministry of Agriculture.
He was then observed opening doors and later entering the male washroom with the complainant’s bag. The prosecutor noted that the accused was then seen leaving the washroom without the bag.
He was later apprehended and under caution stated “I dun do it man,” the court heard.
Persaud, who is currently facing two assault charges, was then remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until September 24th.
