A man was yesterday granted bail after he denied stealing a little over $300,000 in diesel from his employer.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the larceny by clerk charge to Cedric Bobb, 36, in Georgetown.
It is alleged that Bobb on August 30th, at First Street, Bartica, Essequibo River, while employed as a clerk/servant of Kevin Baboolall, stole seven drums of diesel, valued at $330,855.
Bobb, a carpenter of 14, Fourth Avenue, Bartica, denied the charge.
According to the defendant’s attorney, Paul Fung-A-Fat, his client was simply trying to “self-help”, since he is owed $370,000 by the complainant and had not been paid for several months. His client, he stated, is a father of four and was experiencing financial constraints.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail being granted, while adding that the file in relation to the matter is incomplete.
The Chief Magistrate then granted the accused his release on $100,000 bail and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for September 20th.
