The Barbados national men’s football team arrived yesterday at the Eugene F. Correira International Airport, exhibiting confidence ahead of their opening CONCACAF Nations League qualifier against the Golden Jaguars tomorrow.
It will be the 19th meeting of the nations and the match will be staged at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora from 19:00hrs.
The previous encounter occurred in 2015 with Guyana securing a 2-2 draw in the Land of the Flying Fish in an International Friendly.
Captain Rashad Jules said yesterday that the match has added importance as it will serve as a qualifier for the prestigious 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Jules, who plies his trade for Antigua and Barbuda outfit Old Road FC, revealed that while his team is unaware of the composition of Guyana’s team, the intention is to secure the vital three points.
“We have a pretty young squad and we did everything we needed to do to prepare for the tournament and this game. Our team is a mixture of youth and experience, some local and overseas.”
Barbados most recent win against the Guyanese occurred on March 6th 1999 in Bridgetown compliments of a 2-0 margin during the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup.
