Police Sports Club will be going out blazing in their semifinal showdown against the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) in the Georgetown Cricket Association GISE/ Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament this weekend.
According to coach of the side, Jermaine Neblette, the team will be leaving nothing in the tank as they have done throughout the tournament.
Neblette, speaking to Stabroek Sport as the team went through some intense training at Police Ground yesterday, noted that the team has been doing consistently well in the previous matches and as such, there will not be much changes to their game.
The plan, said the former national fast bowler, is to keep it basic and go for the win.
He pointed out that there are some areas in which the team needs to improve and he feels that with the improvement, Police can solidify themselves as one of the top teams in the country at this level.
Among the issues are batting. Neblette pointed out that the batsmen needed to value their wickets more as well as rotate the strike throughout the middle periods.
This was done by Kevin Boodie and Kemol Savory who both smashed centuries against Malteenoes Sports Club last weekend.
The coach added that the fitness level of the players will also need to be improved since a lot of the players looked dull in the field over lengthy periods.
Essequibo coach Ryan Hercules was seen assisting with the training of the team and Neblette indicated that Hercules had expressed an interest in joining the club.
He said that Hercules, who is the coach of the reigning three-day Guyana Cricket Board Franchise champions, Essequibo, brings a lot of experience to the team having also played for Guyana and in England.
Hercules was seen leading the team in basic catching and fielding drills. Neblette said that Hercules is someone who likes to utilize all available resources adding that Hercules has a wealth of experience in that area.
Neblette added that it works well for the team with a lot of the players having played together and share a good friendship, making the team more united than most.
