Hollywood star Burt Reynolds dies at 82

(Reuters) – Burt Reynolds, whose good looks and charm made him one of Hollywood’s most popular actors as he starred in films such as “Deliverance,” “The Longest Yard” and “Smokey and the Bandit” in the 1970s and ’80s, has died at age 82.

Teachers wage talks to resume today

The government and the GTU  are to resume discussions today in a bid to end the teachers’ strike that has upturned the new school year since Monday and yesterday the umbrella trade union grouping, GTUC accused the APNU+AFC administration of  creating an environment of conflict and not negotiating in good faith.

Barbados coach bullish over team’s chances

Despite failing to secure a win against Guyana in over two decades, Barbados Senior Men’s Football Head-coach Ahmed Mohamed, is bullish over his team’s chances of re-writing history tonight in the opening round of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Tridents slump to sixth straight defeat

Fabian Allen powered St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to a thrilling two-wicket victory with two balls to spare that takes them temporarily to the top of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) while inflicting a sixth straight defeat on the Barbados Tridents.  It looked like the Tridents were finally going to return to winning ways back on the road after five defeats at home when they reduced the Patriots to 92/6 in pursuit of 169 for victory, and again when Allen lost the strike in the closing overs and was left needing 17 from the final six balls.  But Allen had the answers, smashing the first two balls of Dominic Drakes’ closing over for sixes to take the target down to a far simpler five from four.
