Foulis man charged with murdering son

Mohan Sookdeo, the 44-year-old man who is accused of fatally stabbing his son on Saturday evening at their Foulis, East Coast Demerara home was yesterday charged by the police with murder and is scheduled to make a court appearance today.

With former Ministry of the Presidency Permanent Secretary Omar Shariff being among the 25 Guyanese students granted a place this year to pursue studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, a city court yesterday ordered the return of his passport to him but asked that he post $1 million bail to ensure his return for his trial.

GTU was badly advised but all is not lost

Last week I argued that collective bargaining (CB) cannot increase teachers’ pay to the level they require to compensate for the historical and moral deficiencies they believe they have sustained and are still sustaining, and concluded that a good result for the teachers  can only be won where there exists ‘strong industrial action to induce in the government the political will to positively respond either before its final stage or during that stage by liberalizing the restrictive conditionalities of the arbitration terms of reference.’
