A brilliant half century from Yeudistir Persaud followed up by some vicious bowling by Keon Morris ensured Nandy Park secure an eight-run win over Silver Bullets on Sunday at the Young Men’s Christian Association Ground, Thomas Lands as the fifth annual Neville Sarjoo Memorial Cup resumed.
Batting first, Nandy Park raced to 228 in their 40 overs before restricting Silver Bullets to 220.
National Under-19 player Persaud was impeccable at the top of the order and played the cracked up surface like a master, often taking the aerial route due to the high grass on the field. Persaud smashed five sixes and four fours on his way to 71 while his brother, Darshan, stabilized the middle order, cracking a pair of sixes and five boundaries on his way to 40 to see Nandy Park reach the imposing total.
Jerry Benjamin bagged 3-19 while Melroy Gomes and Leon David each picked up 2-41.
In reply, Silver Bullets got off to a good start but the batsmen failed to carry on with Morris, a former Guyana under-19 pacer the standout bowler.
Benjamin was consistent at the top of the order, smashing three fours and three sixes on his way to 43 but Dwain Dick struck twice in his first over to reduce Silver Bullets to 69-4 and swing the game back in favour of Nandy Park.
Vishal Sarjoo, though, looked to single-handedly carry his team over the line, stroking 83 with eight fours and seven sixes. Sarjoo shared in a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket which was broken by Morris who returned to strike in consecutive overs while Darshan Persaud ended Sarjoo’s innings.
Morris ended with 3-32, Dick 2-30 while Rohan Sarjoo, Darshan Persaud and Trevor France bagged one wicket a piece.
