Keithland King will make his third appearance in the professional boxing ring on September 22 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and the flamboyant Barbadian will once again look to add another ‘W’ to his record.
King who won his second career fight here on the ‘Bad Blood’ card in January via a second round stoppage of Anson Green, is down to face a tougher test, the hard hitting Derick Richmond (5W-4L-1D).
King and the much reviled Richmond are scheduled to headline next week’s card dubbed ‘Young Guns-The Proving Ground’ in a highly anticipated six-round middleweight contest.
He will be out to prove he has the ammunition necessary to take out his Berbician opponent who has won four of his five fights via the KO route.
“To be honest I don’t think it will be any different from the first two” said King yesterday. “Second round knockout” he boasted. King likes to end his fights quickly, in his debut bout against Rob Mitchell, he hardly broke a sweat as the referee was forced to stop the contest soon after the bell rang.
The Barbadian added “I think he (Richmond) is going to be surprised, it’s going to be a very good show next weekend.”
King added that Richmond’s aggressive style of fighting suits him perfectly. “He is going to keep the pressure on and keep coming and I like guys like that. The only thing Guyana can look forward to is another stoppage. Not to be cocky or anything but I train really hard and I don’t see any average Guyanese or Caribbean fighter beating me.” His work ethic allows him to be confident. King disclosed that he has been training religiously with “some of the best guys from the Barbados national team.”
“Its just a matter of coming in and putting on a display of the hard work these past couple of weeks.”
King is certain of stoppage, but will he be the one on the receiving end? The answer will be known in nine days.
Meanwhile, in the co-feature, the hard hitting James Moore and Romeo Norville will match gloves in a cruiserweight match up scheduled for four rounds. Norville’s sister, Ansilla Norville will also be in the ring. The mother of one is scheduled to face Rewinna David in a bantamweight clash scheduled for four rounds.
The organizers have also pit Terrence Adams against Delon Charles in a four-round featherweight fight and Green against debutant, Joel Williamson. The pair will match gloves in a four-round light welterweight bout.
Tickets for the ‘Young Guns-The Proving Ground’ costs $1000 for stands and $2000 for ringside. Bell time is 20:00hrs.
