Eagles defeated Nets in their firstt division clash, while Plaisance Guardians downed Vikings in second division action of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] League Championships Saturday.
Played at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets, Eagles bested Nets 75-63. Rising star Travis Belgrave top scored with 21 points with fellow emerging talent Kevin Wiggins, the next best scorer with 14 points.
Chipping in with 11 and nine points respectively were veteran duo Louis James and Ryan Gullen. On the other side, the experienced Hodyah Stewart battled to 18 points.
He was assisted by the duo of Fabian Johnson and Joel Ifill, who added 14 and eight points correspondingly. Eagles raced to the early lead, as the first quarter ended 22-13.
Eagles strengthened their grip on the contest, recording 20 points, while restricting Nets to 17 points, to enter the halftime interval firmly in command at 42-30.
Nets fought back in the third period, outscoring Eagles 18-14 to reduce the deficit at 56-48 heading into the final quarter.
However, the win was sealed in the fourth stanza, as Eagles out-hustled Nets 19-15. Meanwhile, Plaisance dismantled Vikings 97-50.
Terrence Daniels top scored with 22 points in the rout, while Nigel Bowen chipped in with 20 points. Contributing nine points was Jared Sears.
For the loser, Leon Lee and Shane Joseph amassed 11 points each, while Rawle Smith tallied nine points. The tournament will continue on Wednesday at the same venue with another doubleheader.
