A number of Guyanese businesses will now be able to market their delicacies to an international audience through Caribbean Airlines’ (CAL) recently launched Caribbean Café project.
Caribbean Café is a free in-flight snack and beverage list featuring products from Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and Guyana, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI). Customers travelling on intra-Caribbean and international flights with the airline’s Boeing 737 fleet will now have the option to purchase a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, along with beverages ranging from non-alcoholic to premium alcoholic options.
DPI said that on September 14, a CAL team met with Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin and a number of stakeholders from the manufacturing and private sectors, at the Marriott Hotel, to discuss the way forward with the project.
Gaskin welcomed the project since he believes it will benefit local manufacturers to sell their products on the international market.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAL, Garvin Medera said the new project aims to continue fostering good relations with its longstanding partners and benefit those in the region. “Building community relationships is key to us at Caribbean Airlines. We see our duties as going just beyond transporting passengers and really working with the fabric of society. We hope this initiative will be the initiation of those relationships.”
DPI said that delicacies such as tamarind balls, fudge, preserved mango and the spiced bun will be among those offered on the airline. Caribbean Cafe is the only onboard service of its kind in the Caribbean offering selections of local food products. The service began on September 1, 2018.
