A pork knocker was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with being in possession of an unlicensed rifle, which police say was discovered by his wife after he allegedly assaulted her.
Adonis Harrison, 28, was read a charge which alleged that on September 8th, at Black Water Village, North West, he had a shotgun without being a licensed firearm holder.
It was further alleged that on the same date he assaulted Joan Joseph.
Harrison pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris then objected to bail being granted in relation to the firearm possession charge.
According to the prosecutor, on the day in question the Toshao contacted the police station and stated that he was in possession of the shotgun. The shotgun had been retrieved from the defendant’s bag by his wife, who was earlier assaulted by him. After seeking shelter at her mother’s home, she returned and searched his bag and made the discovery, Harris said.
She then returned to the home of her mother and called the Toshao, who then contacted the police. The prosecutor noted that the accused was later arrested on September 16th and admitted in a statement to committing the crime.
Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman later granted the accused $20,000 bail on the assault charge but remanded him to prison in relation to the firearm possession charge.
The matter was then adjourned until September 21st.
