The businessman who is accused of fatally beating Linden resident, Leroy Barron during an argument on Saturday was turned in at the Mackenzie Police Station on Monday evening by his mother.
This was confirmed by police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan who told Stabroek News that the suspect, Travis Hazel, called ‘Fifty’, 31, of Silver City, Wismar, Linden remains in custody and is likely to be charged soon.
Reports are that the suspect reportedly related to the police that he has been advised by his attorney not to answer any questions or provide any statement.
The incident had occurred around 11 am on Saturday at Co-op Crescent, Mackenzie during which Barron, 55, of Old Kara Kara, Mackenzie was severely beaten.
He was picked up and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police had said that initial investigations revealed that Barron, who was known to do odd jobs in and around the Mackenzie Market, had an argument with Hazel.
During the process, they had said, Hazel allegedly armed himself with a piece of wood and gave Barron a severe beating, after which he fled the scene.
An autopsy performed on Barron’s remains revealed that he died as a result of a brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma sustained to his head.
