The finalists of the Berbice Cricket Board/Elizabeth Styles Under-21 tournament has been decided with Blairmont Cricket Club defeating Albion Cricket Club by 56 runs and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG) whipping Tucber Park Cricket Club by eight wickets recently.
Blairmont won the toss and decided to take first strike, posting 165 all out in 45.1 overs while Albion only managed 109, folding in the 36th over.
This is the second time in the 2018 season that Albion has been knocked out in the semifinal of a youth tournament by Blairmont.
This time Fawaz Gafoor was the top scorer with 25. He was supported by Javed Karim (22), Nigel Deodat (17) and Rameshwar Samaroo (17).
Blairmont was restricted to their eventual score after Kevin Umroa took 5-37 and Karran Arjpaul 2-19.
In reply, Albion were caught in a web with their batsmen finding it difficult to deal with national youth offspinner, Seon Glasgow who returned figures of 5-27 while Deodat and Karim captured two wickets each for 13 and 23 runs respectively. The Umroa brothers were the only batsmen to show any amount of resistance, with Kevin top scoring with 32 and Ritesh adding 30.
Earlier, RHTGG sent Tucber Park in to bat at the Area H Ground where Steve Deonarine’s top score of 26 and Melvin Singh’s knock of 18 saw Tucber Park reaching 104 all out in 43 overs.
Left-arm spinners Simon Naidu and Jeremy Sandia were virtually unplayable, returning figures of 3-13 and 3-23 respectively.
The Sinclair duo of Kevin and Junior muscled RHTGG into the final with boundary laden innings of 58 and 46 respectively to see their side reach 108-2 from just 51 balls.
The final promise to be an exciting one with RHTGG looking very imposing with the likes of Kevin Sinclair, Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Keith Simpson, Sylus Tyndall, Jonathan Rampersaud, Mahendra Gopilall and Jeremy Sandia. The side would feel confident since the core of players were involved in the New York Business Group Under-19 Final when Rose Hall Town defeated Blairmont Community Centre.
Blairmont on the other hand will be looking to settle the score with Karim, Marvin Prashad, Deodat, Gafoor and Glasgow all showing promising form.
