Stuart Law quits as West Indies coach

ST JOHN’S, Antigua,  CMC – Australian Stuart Law has quit as head coach of embattled West Indies just eight months before the start of the ICC World Cup in England, dealing a severe blow to the regional side’s preparation for the event and leaving authorities scrambling to find a replacement.

Forde defends Elite League continuation

President of the Guyana Football Federation, Wayne Forde, has ‘defended’ the Federation’s intent to persist with the Elite League amid calls for it to shelved.   Football pundits have recently criticized the League’s failure to attract local support for matches while it is also argued that it is failing to produce quality players and results.   Forde, however, while he acknowledges the League’s shortcomings, shares a different view and argues for its continuation.

UG into final of Cyril Bonar T20 competition 

The University of Guyana (UG) Cricket team will play in the finals of the Cyril Bonar T20 competition currently being played in Paramaribo, Suriname after they rebounded from an opening-round defeat.   UG’s opening campaign saw them going down to Suriname Spartans, who they will play in the finals, by three wickets in a ten-overs a side encounter.   UG after winning the toss, elected to bat and were dismissed for 65 with Ray Newton top scoring with 15 while Ramjan gabbed 3-5 for Spartans who reached 69 for seven to complete the win. 

Guyana ladies begin quest for gold with solid showing 

Guyana’s female table tennis contingent who are currently participating in the 60th edition of the Caribbean Table Tennis Federation Senior Championship, in Jamaica, began their quest for gold with a convincing win, yesterday.   The women’s team which comprises Chelsea Edghill, Natalie Cummings, Trenace Lowe and Jody Ann Blake defeated Martinique 3-0 in their opening group two encounter.   The other countries in that group are the Dominican Republic and Jamaica who will be battling Guyana for the number one and two seeding after their round-robin group matches for the opportunity to advance out of the group.

Nomination Day on Friday for Local Government Elections (LGE) on November 12 was a seminal development as it set in train consecutive elections for grassroots democracy in under three years.

Dear Editor, My observation of the manner in which submission of Candidates’ Lists and contingent documents relative to the upcoming Local Government elections were prepared and submitted to Returning Officers at three Registration Centres, forces me to conclude that our aspiring “Village Leaders” and their handlers  were terribly out of their depth.
