A bandit escaped with over $400, 000 in cash and jewellery on Saturday night after he held two persons at gunpoint and robbed them.
According to the police, 34-year-old Michael Francois-Johnson, a computer technician from D’Andrade Street, New-town Kitty, was standing on the northern side of the street with a friend, Dasha Cummings, 35, when a lone bandit held them at gunpoint. The incident occurred at around 10pm.
The police explained that while the two were standing on the road, the bandit approached from behind and pointed a gun at them. He subsequently demanded that they hand over their jewellery, phones and cash. Francois-Johnson handed over a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone valued at $60,000, $80,000 in cash, one gold band worth $100,000 and a gold chain valued at $130,000, while Cummings handed over a gold chain worth $80,000 and a pair of gold rings worth $6,000.
The bandit reportedly escaped in an eastern direction before turning south into Republic Street. The police said that they checked for CCTV cameras in the area but were unable to find any. They also contacted and interviewed several persons but no useful information was obtained.
