Dear Editor,
It was a huge pleasure to attend the Guyana High Commission (UK) Awards at the Senate House on September 15th.Well done to High Commissioner Case on reviving these after a ten-year fallow period.
The awardees ranged from the great and good – Gina Miller ‘The Brexit Lady’ and Samantha Tross, the consultant surgeon, as ‘Guyanese of the Year’ to authors like Grace Nichols to distinguished academics like Ansari Ramjohn to the old stagers Roy Sawh and Arif Ali of Hansib Publishing and Eric Huntley of Beacon Books. There was an impressive array of diaspora talent on show. The ‘Guyanese mafia’ lives on.
By the by, yours truly won an award for ‘services to the community’ in the UK.
Let’s hope the awards are back for good
Yours faithfully,
John’Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
