A 44-year-old Route 42 (Georgetown-Timehri) minibus driver was yesterday remanded to prison for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old differently-abled woman.
It was alleged that Sherwin Reynolds engaged in sexual penetration of the woman on April 19th at Timehri.
Reynolds was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read to him by the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan during an in-camera hearing.
It is alleged that on the day in question, the woman, who cannot speak, was a passenger of the accused’s minibus, which transported her from Georgetown to Timehri. The woman allegedly refused to exit the minibus and she was taken back to Georgetown. She remained in the bus and went for a second time to Timehri.
Reynolds, it is alleged, later drove the woman to a lonely spot and raped her. The woman subsequently went home and informed her parents of what had happened. There was a confrontation and the woman allegedly identified Reynolds, who was arrested and later charged.
Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded Reynolds to prison and adjourned the matter until October 10th.
