Five women appeared on Friday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing over $600,000 in items and were each placed on $100,000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly after they entered not guilty pleas.
Lisa Barker, 19, of 14 Rasville, Tameka Blair, 27, of 68 Congress Drive South Ruimveldt, Simone Williams, 21, of 36 West La Penitance, Onika Favourite, 19, of 198 Cooper Street Albouystown and Shenella Adams, 34, of 9 Laing Avenue on September 27 at Robb Street Bourda, stole items to the tune of $646,000 all belonging to Phillip Benjamin.
On the day in question, Benjamin met the five accused, with whom he was not familiar, on Light and Robb Street. He parked his car in the Nigel’s Supermarket parking lot and he removed the items, which were in a haversack and included a mobile phone, laptop and US currency, from the back seat of the vehicle and placed same in the trunk.
He left the trunk opened but upon his return the bag with the items was missing and the five had also disappeared. The man reported that he walked up the street and met one of the accused but when confronted she denied any knowledge of the bag. The matter was reported and all five were subsequently arrested and charged.
The matter will continue tomorrow.
