Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a pedestrian at the Land of Canaan public road, East Bank Demerara on Friday night.
Truck driver, Richard Thomas, 41, was left nursing a gunshot wound to his feet, police said. Reports reaching Stabroek News revealed that a team of KGM security guards were on mobile patrol in the company’s red and silver pickup at Barama Company Limited.
Police said that investigations revealed that while the security guards were patrolling, the vehicle drove into a hole causing it to bounce with the KGM guard grabbing his firearm. It was at this point, he told police, that a round was discharged and hit Thomas, who was walking in a southern direction on the eastern side of the road. Thomas sustained injuries to his left ankle and right knee.
He was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later taken to the Balwant Singh Hospital, where he was treated and sent away.
The KGM employee is currently in police custody aiding with the investigation.
The weapon has been lodged with the police.
