As the action continues in the fifth annual East Bank Cricket Association, Neville Sarjoo Memorial 40-overs tournament, Farm recorded a comfortable three-wicket win over Peter’s Hall at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) ground, Thomas Lands on Sunday.
Batting first, Peter’s Hall were dismissed in 29.2 overs for 133 while Farm raced to 134-7 in just 22, 2 overs on the flat pitch with the sun in all its glory.
Peter Persaud and Arif Peerbachus got Peter’s Hall off to a fine start with Persaud smashing Franchot Duncan-Clarke for three fours in the first over. However, the 21-year-old seamer had his revenge by scattering the stumps of Persaud for a nine-ball 12. Peerbacchus was also dismissed for 12 (two fours) after being trapped leg before wicket by Clyde Hoyte.
Mark Roopchand’s 25-run cameo halted the collapse while Asif Inshak chipped in with 16 at number 10 to help their side to a respectable total. Oslyn Batson ripped through the middle order to end with 3-19 while Azeem Azeez picked up 3-40 and Duncan-Clarke impressed with 2-32.
In the chase, Waqar Bacchus and Charwayne McPherson added 55 for the opening partnership with McPherson being the more aggressive of the two. McPherson clobbered four fours and a six while his opening partner smashed a pair of boundaries on their way to 28 and 14 respectively before Martin Sallik accounted for both of their wickets.
Farm continued their push with Raul Reed (18) and Azeez (12) adding some important cameos. However, three quick strikes brought Peter’s Hall back into the match and the equation boiled down to 23 runs needed with three wickets in hand.
Duncan-Clarke made it easy in the end by hammering two sixes to finish unbeaten on 15 and seal the victory.
Peerbacchus picked up 3-26 while Sallik claimed 2-40.
