The 14th edition of the Hand-In-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance 11-stage cycling programme is set for the inner circuit of the National Park, Thomas Lands.
The event, which is being organized by veteran cycling enthusiast and National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohammed, will pedal off from 09.00hrs with the juniors taking centre stage.
That race will be followed by the highly-anticipated 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational race before heading to the prize giving ceremony.
Speaking about the event, Mohammed said the company has always been dedicated to the development of sports in the country, especially cycling. He commended the company for its devotion to cycling and thanked them for partnering with the sport for 14 years.
Marketing Director of the sponsors, Shafeena Juman, along with a number of staff will join the jubilant crowd that is usually present to witness the action and assist in the distribution of prizes.
Last year it was lone rider, Geron Williams, who copped the top accolade in the 35-lap event, clocking in a time of one hour, 16 minutes and 16 seconds. However, Williams has been out of action for the most part of the 2018 season, only resuming riding a few races ago. Nevertheless, the disciplined rider has been training vigorously and is set to defend his title.
The competition is expected to be at high with the likes of Curtis Dey, Michael Anthony, Stephano Husbands, Andrew Hicks, Christopher Griffith, Paul Denobrega and many more taking to the starting line.
Last year’s winners were
12-14 years: Jonathan Ramsuhcit
Veterans’ under-50: Warren ‘40’ McKay (11:18:49m)
Mountain Bikes: Shane Bourne (12:50:43m)
Junior/Juveniles: Nigel Duguid (23:46:42m)
