There are over three trillion trees around the world.
October 5 is designated National Day of Tree Planting in Guyana. Trees are planted on this day every year. But it should not be the only day we plant trees. This can be done more often. The city in particular needs some new ornamental trees to replace the ones lost over the years to poor maintenance, flooding and removals to make space for paved areas to park cars.
We are much poorest over this senseless loss. Why anyone would want to tear up the limited green space in the city is beyond me. On Brickdam alone many trees and green spaces were lost at three ministries and several business houses.
