The voir dire in the trial of fugitive murder accused, Troy Thomas, continued last Thursday before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that Thomas, of South Ozone Park, Queens, New York, murdered Keith Frank in the United States on December 11, 2011.
Months ago, a voir dire was ordered after the accused man’s attorneys challenged the ability of witnesses to identify the accused.
When the matter was called Thursday, Sharon Correia, a clerk attached to the George-town Magistrate’s Court, Urmila Gladstone, a treaty officer attached to the Ministry of Public Security, and Peola Daniels, a reception officer attached to the Guyana Prison Service, were all called upon to give evidence.
Several documents were tendered as evidence during Thursday’s hearing. However, during the proceeding, the prosecution stated that they had wanted to bring another witness to give evidence in the voir dire as the magistrate had set aside the entire date to hear the matter.
Thomas’ attorney, Darren Wade, challenged the prosecution and stated that on the previous court date, the prosecutor had stated that the prosecution would close the voir dire at Thursday’s hearing. Wade stated that he was not prepared to hear the witness and said he would protest against the prosecution bringing the witness by not showing up.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus told the attorney that she would report his behavior in court and later demanded an apology from the attorney.
The matter is expected to be called again on October 8 for continuation of the voir dire.
