An unbeaten century form Leon Andrews spared the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) an innings defeat in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), Noble House Seafoods two-day second division contest against the Police Sports Club (PSC), yesterday as the two sides played to a draw at the end of day two at the PSC Ground.
The second day’s play began with PSC resuming on 171 for 1, and with a lead of 33 runs after dismissing GDF for a partly 138. The men resuming the day were Paul Tyndall on 81 and Kemol Savory on 10.
Both men, however, didn’t add much to their overnight score as Tyndall added just one while Savory was dismissed for 34 to leave the score on 206 for three.
The Police middle order batsmen then capitalized on the stable platform they were given as Andrew Lyght jr (45), Chemroy Kendell (48) and Jason Heyliger (45) all missed out on fifties before PSC was dismissed for 364 in 71 overs.
Off-spinner Andrews claimed 3-113 while Paul O’Neil (3-10) chipped in with a few wickets at the end for GDF.
PSC, with a first-inning lead of 226, piled on the pressure in GDF’s second innings as they ended the final day on 196 for 8 in 50 overs to scramble a draw.
Andrews, who was given a few reprieves, mixed his aggression with patience to end unbeaten on 120 after smashing 10 fours and seven sixes in a match-saving knock.
Damion Whitney (18) was the only other batsman to muster anything to write about. Off-spinner Rockey Hutson was the chief destroyer of the innings, claiming 5-75.
