Sixteen-year-old Heimraj Resaul continued his dominant 2018 season, adding the Guyana Tennis Association/ Bakewell Juniors U-18 title to his collection with a victory over last year’s champion Viraj Sharma at the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Court located at Diamond yesterday.
Resaul dominated both sets winning 6-2, 6-0 but even though the score may show a one-sided contest the match was not.
Speaking to Stabroek News, the champion said that the conditions were very brutal, pointing out that the sun made movement extremely difficult.
Resaul, who attends School of the Nations, added that the match was fairly even since both players did not play to their best.
He attributed his success to the fact that he was a bit more consistent which allowed him to earn the important points and secure the title.
While Sharma was the defending champion, Resaul said that he was not at all nervous or worried when coming up against the former champion since he felt that he has more experience even though he has reduced his training from five days a week to two, due to school commitments. Earlier, Resaul had advanced to the final after beating his brother Vadeanand, 6-0, 6-0 while Sharma brushed aside Mark McDonald 6-2, 6-0.
