The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) got off to a commendable start in the Georgetown Cricket Association/ Friends of Cricket 100 overs tournament clobbering Bel Air Rubis by 270 runs in round one before beating Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) by five wickets.
Playing at GCC, Bourda, the home side won the toss and took first strike. They faced their full quota of 55 overs and climbed to 322- but were given an additional 20 runs penalty owing to the delinquency of Bel Air Rubis.
Set a target of 343 from 45 overs, the visitors later stumbled to 72 all out.
GCC’s batting was laced with shots from the onset with West Indies youth player, Mavindra Dindyal blasting 43 in the opening stand of 62. When he departed he had already stroked eight fours.
His opening partner, Rahul Singh played the spectator during Dindyal’s early explosion but timed his innings well to stroke a shot-filled 119 consisting of nine fours and seven sixes at the former international venue.
During his time at the crease, Singh shared in a 165-run partnership for the third wicket with his skipper, Zachary Jodah, who laced his innings with a dozen fours and a pair of sixes on his way to 73.
Rudranauth Kissoon was the most impacting bowler, ending with 2-27 from six overs.
In the chase, Arayan Persaud, who scored 33 earlier, returned with the ball to take match winning figures of 4-3 in just 4.1 overs, two of which were maidens while Thaddeus Lovell picked up 3-17 from five overs.
Mark Sukhai was the only batsman to reach double figures, hitting three boundaries in his innings of 16.
Meanwhile, GCC followed up this performance against MYO at their home.
MYO batted first and aided by a third-wicket stand of 49 between Richardo Ramsammy and Zynul Ramsammy, MYO reached 143 all out in 35 overs. Richardo Ramsammy launched four sixes and five fours in his innings of 53 while Zynul Ramsammy stroked one six and three fours during his knock of 31.
Jodha picked up 3-20 and Darrius Andrews 3-31.
In reply, Singh followed up his century with a belligerent 56 consisting of five six and four fours at the small Woolford Avenue ground from 39 balls.
Singh was supported by Rivaldo Phillips (26) with whom he shared a second-wicket stand of 65. Niran Bissu captured 3-31.
