The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Junior National Indoor Hockey Championships commenced last evening with Bingo Spartans leading the way with commanding opening wins in two different age group categories at the National Gymnasium.

The night, however, belonged to Spartans’ Sarah Klautky, who converted two hat tricks in both the girls under – 16 and 21 divisions.

Spartans, however, fresh off their GHB girls under – 19 outdoor championships a few weeks ago, remained ominous even as they switched to the indoor format with a 3-0 win over GCC Her-ricanes in the girls under – 16 category on the back of Klautky’s first hat trick.

Spartans led 1-0 at the halfway point after Klautky’s opening strike, which came in 10thminute, from a penalty corner conversion.

She completed the 3-0 win with follow up strikes in the 13thand 17thminute, respectively to earn her first triple of the night to gift her side the ideal start.

Spartans once again recorded success over GCC Her-ricanes to notch up their second win of the evening, this time in the girls under – 21 age group category with a 5-2 win over their counterparts.

Klautky was once again the chief architect of the triumph with another crafty performance where she netted in the second, 14thand 18thminutes.

Madison Fernandes and Alana Chung were the other scorers in that encounter.

Meanwhile, GCC Pitbulls and Hikers drew 2-2 in their boys under – 16 match.

Converting for Pitbulls were Vladimir Woodroffe and John Phang, while Tahrea Garnett and Jamal December found the back of the net for Hikers.

The final two boys under – 16 matches of the evening saw Multi Rockets and Taco playing to a nil-nil draw as Joseph Warriors and Saints played to a 2-2 draw.

Old Fort Top Form was the other victor on the opening night after completing a 2-1 triumph over Saints in the boys under – 21 category.

The tournament was last played in 2016 and will continue this evening.
