The Guyana Fitness Games’ Health and Fitness Expo returns to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) this weekend for its fourth staging.
These and other details were disclosed on Tuesday night at the Genesis Fitness Express Gym during the formal launch of the two-day event.
As customary, the annual fixture gets cracking on Saturday with the Cancer Awareness Glow Walk followed by a ‘wacky’ Zumba Glow Pink Party for Cancer Awareness which will be led by Guyana’s only licensed Zumba instructor, Noshavyah King. The glow walk starts from the Gym on D’Urban street at 18:00hrs and concludes at the CASH where King and her team will lead a ‘wacky’ zumba party to some of the latest soca hits.
According to one of the organizers of the event, Jordana Ramsey-Gonsalves, the party will feature “colorful wigs and you can dress how you want.” On Sunday, action starts at the CASH from 14:00hrs with the Crossfit events for the scaled competitors followed by the RX division for the elite featuring the nation’s fittest duo of Dillon Mahadeo and Semonica Duke. Ramsey-Gonsalves who stated that the event has grown over the years, highlighted that 30 athletes, half of which are female, will be part of Sunday’s competitions.
The expo will end with a Strong Man competition where one of the feats will be “pulling one of Macorp’s trucks.” Last year’s winner, Suriname’s Donovan Dongo is expected to return and be challenged by Guyana’s own Carlos Patterson and Julio Sinclair.
Admission for Saturday and Sunday is $1000 and $500 respectively.
Sponsors include: Genesis Fitness Express, Ansa McAL Limited, Fitness Express, Pollo Tropical, Republic Bank, St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital and the National Sports Commission. Director of Sport, Chris Jones along with the other representatives of the sponsors noted that they were “happy to be associated with the event.”
Tickets can be bought at Fitness Express on Sheriff Street and the Genesis Fitness Express Gym.
