For the second time in a week, the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday returned the police file on the fatal accident in which a senior officer struck a cyclist, directing that even further investigations be done.
Police Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday morning confirmed that the case file in respect to the death of Conrad Alleyne was returned to the Chambers of the DPP for further advice.
This was the second instance for this week. The first was on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, DPP had returned the file to the police, requesting a further investigation in the matter.
A reliable source yesterday informed Stabroek News that the file, dubbed “urgent,” was sent back to the DPP’s Chambers.
As such, it was reviewed once again and returned with recommendations for the police to verify and clarify specific aspects.
The source explained that in the first instance, the DPP had requested the police to look at five specific areas but only three were addressed. As a result, the file was returned for the remaining two areas to be addressed.
The accident occurred around 7.20 pm on September 12th along the Boerasirie Bridge, on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) Public Road, while Alleyne, of 33 Hague, WCD, was riding his bicycle over the bridge.
The vehicle which struck him, a Toyota RAV4 bearing licence plate PTT 992, was driven by Deputy Superintendent of Police Patrick Todd, who is the Officer-in-Charge of the No.2 Sub-Division in ‘D’ Division (West Demerara).
During the initial stages of the investigation, Todd was administered a breathalyser test and his breath alcohol content was found to be above the legal limit.
