The police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the murder of 51-year-old miner Kelvin Daly, who was hacked to death near Puruni Landing, in Region Seven, two weeks ago.
However, Divisional Commander Kevin Adonis told this newspaper that the investigation remains active.
The bloodied body of Daly, a father of four, of Lot 86 Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, was discovered around 7.15 am on October 1st, along a trail located about a mile away from Puruni Landing by one of his fellow miners, who was on his way to their camp.
He had chop wounds to his head, throat and back.
An autopsy showed that he died as a result of multiple incised wounds.
Daly was stabbed and chopped about his body more than 40 times, his wife, Shonette Andrews previously told this newspaper.
The murder occurred sometime between 5.15 pm on September 30th, when he left his camp, and before 7.15 am on October 1st, when his body was discovered.
While the motive for his murder remains unknown, this newspaper was previously told that several persons were held for questioning and were later released.
Daly was discovered dead by a 34-year-old co-worker, also of Ann’s Grove, who had reportedly told the police that he and Daly were “punters,” who worked in a camp located a short distance from Puruni Landing. The man reported that he last saw Daly on the afternoon of September 30th, when he left the camp to raid mining lands.
