The Golden Jaguars secured their first win in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifiers, dismantling lowly Turks and Caicos 8-0 yesterday at the TCIFA National Academy, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.
It was the second consecutive heavy defeat for Turks and Caicos, a nation with a population of less than 75,000 people and the lowest ranked member of FIFA alongside Bahamas at 210th, following their 11-0 mauling to Cuba in the opening match.
Guyana, ranked 182nd, entered the clash on the back of a 2-2 result against Barbados.
Guyana’s starting XI consisted of Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Kevin Layne, Walter Moore, Ronayne Marsh-Brown, Captain Samuel Cox, Daniel Wilson, Daniel Kadell, Anthony Belfield, Emery Welshman, and Trayon Bobb and Sheldon Holder.
Holder opened the scoring, netting with a header in the seventh minute before Emery Welshman made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Holder made his presence felt once more compliments of a 37th minute strike.
The score line ballooned to 5-0 before the halftime interval, as Holder completed his hat-trick in the 45th minute and Bobb netted in the 45th+2 minute.
Guyana added to their tally in the second stanza, with Welshman bagging his brace compliments of a 69th minute strike. Kadell Daniels also got into the scoring act with a 77th minute effort.
Welshman then completed his hat-trick with a penalty conversion in the 81stminute.
With the win, Guyana move onto four points. They will now travel to French Guiana on November 20th for their third qualifier, before ending their campaign against Belize in March 2019 on home soil.
