A Laing Avenue man, who claimed to have found a gun buried on his property, was on Friday remanded to prison on an illegal firearm possession charge.
Paul Bishop, 32, of Lot 27 Laing Avenue, was read a charge which stated that on October 9th, at Freeman Street, he had a .32 revolver in his possession, without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Bishop, a carpenter, denied the charge read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Facts presented to the court by police prosecutor Richard Harris stated that on the day in question, officers, acting on information, conducted raids in the East La Penitence area, specifically Freeman Street.
While on Freeman Street, the defendant was observed riding a bicycle. According to Harris, the accused was stopped and a search was conducted on him, which led to the discovery of the firearm in his possession. It is alleged that the accused told the police, “Officer, sir, I found the gun when I was digging the sand in front my gate”.
Bishop was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until October 31st, when it is expected to be heard by Magistrate Leron Daly.
