Gov’t vows to fight major hike in Berbice Bridge tolls

The Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated (BBCI) yesterday announced that it would be instituting huge hikes in tolls as of November 12th, 2018 but Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson assured residents of the county that the government would do everything in its power to ensure that they pay no increases.

Berbicians yesterday condemned the planned hikes in tolls to cross the Berbice Bridge and bus operators who ply the route between New Amsterdam and Rosignol said the move would likely put them out of work.

GCB renders assistance to Parika Salem Community Ground

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) visited the Parika Salem Community Centre Ground on Thursday to host a simple but significant ceremony to signal the commencement of an upgrade to the venue.  According to the GCB, two all-weather practice pitches will be upgraded by December of this year and will be enclosed with two practice net cages.

President of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Philip Fernandes is thrilled with the quality of Guyana’s junior hockey players following the conclusion of the GHB Junior Nationals on Sunday at the National Gymnasium.   Fernandes, in an interview with Stabroek Sports, was so impressed that he made a bold pronouncement that some of the juniors may possibly make it into the senior squad, on present form.   “We have some really good talent who I think can surely break into the national ranks soon,” he told Stabroek Sports with a hint of commanding assurance.
