The prosecutor in the matter of Erwin Bacchus, the Subryanville hotelier charged with the murder of Jason De Florimonte, has no plans to call the handyman who allegedly intervened in the encounter as one of its witnesses.
When the matter resumed yesterday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, special prosecutor Dexter Todd requested to approach the Magistrate’s bench, along with attorneys Glenn Hanoman and Jed Vasconcellos; both attorneys for the accused.
It has been alleged that the accused, Bacchus, on August 4th, at Subryanville, Georgetown, murdered De Florimonte.
Sometime after the discussion between the magistrate and attorneys, Magistrate Latchman informed relatives of the deceased and the accused that Todd was not willing to call a witness, Terrence Newsum, to testify, but related that he was willing to subject the witness to the defence.
Prosecutor Todd later requested time to have his request vented with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Attorney Hanoman had voiced to the court that he felt as though it was the prosecutor’s duty to present a witness as vital as Newsum in the course of the proceedings.
Having heard from the attorney, the Magistrate adjourned the matter until October 24th.
