Pacesetters and University of Guyana (UG) Trojans secured contrasting wins in the Under-23 section, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s League Championship continued on Wednesday.
Staged at the Burnham Court, Carmichael and Middle Streets, Pacesetters, the home side, crushed Sonics 98-50. It was a dominant performance from Pacesetters who had five scorers in double figures.
Troy David led the rout with 24 points. He was supported by Quincy DosSantos, Kwesi Roberts, Kashif Liverpool and Jamal Nicholas, scorers of 13, 12, 12 and 11 points respectively.
For the loser, Troy Glasgow top-scored with 15 points, with Lemuel Grant the next best scorer with 11 points. Chipping in with eight and six points each were Jamal Booker and Terence Audain respectively.
The low scoring nature of the first period failed to highlight what would prove to be a lopsided contest, as Pacesetters took a 13-10 advantage.
This lead was built on in a clinical manner, as the hosts outscored Sonics 20-7 in the second stanza, to secure a commanding 33-17 score heading into the halftime interval.
Further distance was placed between the two teams in the pivotal third quarter, with Pacesetters netting an impressive 26 points, while restricting Sonics to 16 points, to lead 59-32.
However, the best was saved for last as the host amassed a mammoth 39 points in the final stanza, with the visitors marginally improving on their previous quarterly tally with 18 points.
Meanwhile, University of Guyana Trojans defeated Eagles 67-62. Jonathan Browne tallied 15 points in the victory, while Kadeem Peterkin, Jahleel Younge and Jabari Joseph added 11, 10 and nine points respectively.
On the other side, Sherland Gillis and Shamar Huntley amassed a game high 22 points.
