Essequibo Franchise player, Neiland Cadogan capped off a splendid all-round performance to see Imam Bacchus Sports Club score the highest total of the weekend against Cotton Field Strikers while Reliance Hustlers, Queenstown Sports Club and Affiance Sports Club recorded wins in the Central Essequibo T20 tournament.
Playing at the Reliance Ground, Imam Bacchus took first strike and Cadogan duly smashed 103 with seven sixes and nine fours to steer his side to 221-5 from their allotted overs. He was supported by Nathan Persaud who was equally aggressive, clobbering six sixes and a solitary four on his way to 47.
Kevin Balbadar was unbeaten on 25. Bertram Benalds was the most successful bowler from Cotton Field, picking up 3-45.
In reply, before bad light forced the match to be called off, Cotton Field were struggling at 117-8 with three overs remaining. Leg-spinner Rodwin Gordon troubled the batsmen, capturing 3-18 with Cadogan returning to take 2-13. National youth player Lance Roberts top scored with 32 while Benalds contributed 31.
Earlier at the ground, Hustlers defeated their club counterparts, Reliance Masters by two wickets in a contest that went down to the last over.
Electing to bat, Masters climbed to 141-8 with Zavier McDonald (32), Teddy Manchal (16) and Cecil Shivambar (15) being the main scorers. Off spinner, Pavindra Persaud bagged 3-28 and Trevis Simon 2-19 from their four overs.
In reply, Hustlers survived a scare in the middle period to scamper to 142-8 from 19.4 overs with Kevin Boodram and Mark Austin scoring 23 and 20 respectively.
Meanwhile, at the Affiance Ground, Affiance Sports Club showed Young Achievers experience trumps youth with a nine-wicket win.
Young Achievers were reduced to 113-8 in 15 overs with Badesh Parsotam taking 5-15 and B. Lalldas top scoring with 29. In reply, Affiance reached 114-1 in 13 overs with Devin Sookdeo smashing an unbeaten 60 with nine fours while Eishwar Singh scored 32 not out.
In the final contest at Affiance, Queenstown snatched a one-wicket win over Police Sports Club. Police were invited to bat, reaching 109-6 in 18 overs.
L. David scored 29 with two sixes while Selwyn Fraser took 3-26. In reply, Tameshwar Danpaul’s 5-35 looked to pull Police through but was not enough as Randy Bridgemohan scored 31 and Henry Green, 20, to see their side reach 110-9 in 15 overs.
