The Golden Jaguars U20 Boys team continued preparations for the CONCACAF Championships on a positive note edging the ‘Elite League’ All-Stars 1-0 yesterday at the Georgetown Football Club [GFC] ground, Bourda.
It was the second win for the team following their 2-0 victory over the Guyana Police Force [GPF] on Tuesday.
In what was a game of two halves that was officiated by only one referee, substitute forward Dwayne Rebeiro snatched the win in the 79th minute, stabbing home into the back of the net, after the ball fell fortuitously into his path following an initial attempt from a team-mate.
Wayne Dover, Head-Coach of the team during a post-match comment said, “The opposition was definitely different from the Police team and they provided exactly what we wanted in the game so we could literally measure where we at physically, tactically, mentally and technically.”
He added, “One of the moments that stand out in the game was the period when the senior team had us pinned and the lads had to battle that period to literally save us from disintegration.
“That in of itself shows how mentally tough we are as a team, because they could have easily buckled and conceded a number of goals in that period. That is the big standout moment for me.”
The CONCACAF Under-20 Championships will be held at the IMG Arena, Florida, USA from November 1st-22nd. Guyana will faceoff with Guatemala at 10:30hrs in their opening clash on November 2nd, before battling Cayman Islands four days later.
