A labourer was granted bail by the Chief Magistrate earlier this month after he denied being found with almost half a pound of ecstasy pills in his possession.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to Kenton Haynes, 32, of 347 First Street, Mocha, East Bank Demerara.
It is alleged that on October 17th, at Orange Walk and Charlotte Street, Haynes had in his possession 559 pills, weighing 219.7 grammes, for trafficking.
Haynes pleaded not guilty to the offence
Attorney Dexter Todd, who appeared for Haynes, requested bail for his client, while stating that he was not a flight risk and that he was known to the officers involved in the investigation.
Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit Prosecutor (CANU) Konyo Sandiford objected to bail being granted to the accused and requested that if the court did consider bail that conditions be attached.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently granted the accused his release on $200,000 bail and ordered that he lodge his passport and report every Monday and Friday at 9 to CANU headquarters.
The matter is expected to be called again on November 1st.
