(Jamaica Observer) Residents of Top Hill, St Ann’s Bay, were devastated yesterday at the gruesome discovery of the body of 14-year-old Raven Wilson in a wooded area of the community.
The teenager, who was reported missing on Friday, was found in a plastic bag with a wound to the face.
When the Jamaica Observer visited the community, residents were huddled in small groups trying to make sense of the dastardly act.
“This is a wicked act!” one resident was heard exclaiming.
The slain teen’s father, Loxsley Wilson, said he felt as if he were in a bad dream.
He last heard from his daughter early Friday morning when she sent a text message to remind him about money for fast food.
“Every day I pick her up at school. The only time I don’t pick her up is when I’m not in the area,” the father said. “Friday, she texted me 5:47 in the morning and say, ‘Remember it’s KFC day today’, he told the Observer.
As he was going out of the parish, Wilson said he left the money with his neighbour for Raven to collect. He said, however, that when he checked later in the day, he was told she had not gone to pick it up.
He was later alerted to her disappearance when the child’s mother, Lavern Morgan, called to ask if she was with him.
Morgan described her only daughter as a quiet, loving child who was in turn well-loved and did not deserve such cruelty.
She said Raven left home about 6:30 am for Ocho Rios High School where she was on the morning shift. She said she knew something was wrong when Raven did not pick up her niece after school.
“Raven nuh duh nobody nothing! Raven just sit down and suck her finger,” Morgan wailed. “Mi would like to ask that man what Raven duh yuh?”
“Raven innocent! Raven go a school. Raven no go out,” the mother said.
Some community members theorise that Raven’s killer or killers are from the area.
“I think is someone from the community. Only someone from the community would dump her there,” one resident said.
One family member said he believes someone was trying to send a message as he believed Raven was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the community.
