Half centuries from openers Zameer Nasser and Javed Karim followed by a four-wicket haul from Seon Glasgow ensured Blairmont Blazers a 70-run win over Cotton Tree Die Hard and the West Berbice, Berbice Cricket Board/Magic Moments T20 title yesterday at Cotton Tree Ground.
Blairmont won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 215-6 from their allotted overs and then limited Cotton Tree to 145 all out in 15.4 overs.
Blairmont got off to a positive start with an opening stand of 84 between Nasser and Karim before Karim departed for 54 from 31 balls.
He struck three sixes, one of which went out the ground to bring up his half century off of left-arm spinner Pooran Persaud who eventually had his man caught at long off.
Nasser continued his assault with his half century coming off 25 balls. He remained unbeaten on 81 from 39 balls including four fours and eight massive sixes.
Kevin Jawahir chipped in with 34.
Roshan Gafoor and Waqar Hassan picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Cotton Tree got off to a good start but lost wickets consistently. A second-wicket stand of 50 from former Berbice U 19 player Nick Ramsaroop (35) and Persaud (39) were the only resistance in the innings.
Glasgow bagged 4-31 including a juggling return catch to remove Ramsaroop while skipper Shabeer Baksh snatched two quick wickets.
Skipper of the losing side, Narshan Gafoor said they allowed the opposing side to score too much runs but were good in the power play, scoring 54 from the first six overs but lost wickets steadily and never recovered.
Similarly, Baksh said it was the batting that clicked.
He, however credited the return catch from Glasgow, one of four catches in the match by him as the deciding factor in the outcome of the game.
Meanwhile, in the third place playoff a helmet-trick from Carlston Nurse and a blistering unbeaten 47 from Arthley Bailey ensured Monedderlust defeated Bush Lot by five wickets.
Monedderlust won the toss and sent Bush Lot in to bat. They were bundled out for 81 all out in 14 overs with G. Fraser top scoring with 28.
Nurse picked up five wickets in seven balls to cripple the scoring, ending with figures of 5-15 while Travis Moore and Michael Schultz took two wickets each for 12 and 19 runs respectively.
In reply, Monedderlust raced to 84-5 in 11.2 overs with Bailey smashing five fours and three sixes in his innings.
C. Grant bagged 4-18 in his three overs.
