A taxi driver is now counting his losses after he was attacked and robbed of his motor vehicle and other valuables amounting to a little more than $3M by three knife-wielding bandits posing as customers.
Reports are that the incident occurred around 1.30am yesterday at Ogle Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara during which Dustin Greaves, a resident of Lot 383 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was robbed of one black Toyota Duke, PWW 6930 valued $2M, his cell phone and $15,000 cash.
The crime was committed by three men who remain on the lam.
Investigations, Stabroek News was told, revealed that Greaves was plying his trade in the vicinity of a hotel located on Vlissengen Road when he was approached by the suspects who hired him to go to Kitty.
However, shortly after the car drove off, the men changed their destination and requested to be taken to the East Coast instead.
While they were in the vicinity of Ogle airport road, the suspect who was seated behind Greaves began to choke him while his accomplice who was seated in the front passenger seat dealt Greaves several punches and demanded that he hand over his valuables.
During this process, the other suspect who was seated in the back also whipped out a knife and dealt Greaves several cuts about his body.
Greaves was relieved of the valuables he had in his possession.
Greaves was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
Investigations are ongoing.
