Marian Academy Inter-house badminton team championships commenced Tuesday with four houses participating at the school’s auditorium. After a full day of play on the Carifesta Avenue-based school court, Our Lady of Fatima house defeated Our Lady of Guadeloupe house 3-2 while Our Lady of Coromoto House beat Our Lady of Lourdes house 5-0.
During the clash between Fatima and Guadeloupe, Randy Hamilton defeated DeAndre Springer 12-9 in the boy’s singles; Jaden Totaram and Graeme Carpenter bested Alexander Ally and Springer 21-7 in the boy’s doubles while Kelliann Sauers and Nia Allen outplayed Gabryel Fiedtkou and Tashauna McGarrell 21-7 to secure wins for Fatima.
Jayde DaSilva defeating Nia Allen 21-8 in the girl’s singles while Springer and DaSilva’s 21-9 victory over Hamilton and Sauers in the mixed doubles accounted for the two wins for Guadeloupe. In the second contest, Cormoto won all five categories with Matthew Beharry beating Zachary Persaud 21-10 in the boys singles; Lesha Singh sinking Isabella Ramjohn 21-18 in the girls singles; Beharry and Vikash Mootoo mauling Roland Hamilton and Persaud 21-11 in the boy’s doubles; Ashley Escarrage and Jada Mahan defeating Ella Sahai and Ramjohn 2-13 in the girl’s doubles and Mootoo and Reba Ramlall hammering Lucas Persaud and Sahai 21-8 in the mixed doubles.
The competition continues Tuesday at the same venue from 15:00hrs.
