Unbeaten Plaisance Guardians dismissed Pepsi Sonics 66-32 in their U23 division encounter,
when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] ‘League Championship’, continued on Tuesday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.
Terrence Daniels led the rout with a game-high 14 points, with Delroy Critchlow adding an invaluable 11 points.
Contributing nine, eight and six points each were Akeem Crandon, Hullman Bowen and Rafael Whittington respectively.
On the other side, Daniel Anthony recorded 10 points, while Manasseh Murray and Lemuel Grant supported with seven and six points correspondingly.
The contest started in a surprising manner as Sonics took the unlikely lead compliments of a 13-10 score line at the end of the first period.
However, normalcy was restored in the second quarter as Guardians fashioned 25 points while restricting Sonics to 10 points to seize control of the fixture heading into the half-time break at 35-23.
The lead grew in the third quarter as Guardians tallied 17 points while staunch defending relegated Sonics to an embarrassing two points to lead 52-25. The score line was then sealed as the East Coast Demerara outfit outhustled Sonics 14-7. Meanwhile, Pacesetters schooled University of Guyana [UG] Trojans 74-59 in their first division clash.
Nathan Saul shot his way to a game-high 18 points. He was assisted by Travis Williams, the next best scorer with 11 points, while the combination of Tafawa Dey and Jaleel Younge chipped in with nine and eight points respectively.
For the loser, Ewart Smith top scored with 13 points while Akil Lewis, Cosmo Evans and Selvaughn Mosley tallied six points each.
From start to finish, the home side was in control of the match as the first period ended 19-11.
The second quarter mirrored the first with Pacesetters netting 14 points compared to the 10-point haul of the visitors to lead 33-21 at the interval.
The lead grew in the third period as Pacesetters out-hustled Sonics once again by a 17-12 margin to lead 50-33.
With a sizeable lead at their disposal, Pacesetters surrendered the final period by a 26-24 score. The tournament continues at the same venue today.
