The Corentyne woman whose body was discovered floating in a trench in Albion, Corentyne on Wednesday afternoon died from drowning due to blunt force trauma to the back of her head, a police source told Stabroek News yesterday following the post-mortem examination.
The woman, Samdai Persaud Samnarine, also known as “Aunty Pato”, 73, of Lot 695 Number One Road, Corentyne, reportedly disappeared from her home around 4 pm on Tuesday.
The source said that the examination which was done on the West Coast of Berbice revealed drowning due to blunt force trauma to the back of her head. Additionally, the source noted, that some impressions were discovered on the woman’s neck as well.
This newspaper contacted the Acting Commander of B Division, Paul Langevine twice yesterday afternoon to confirm the results of the post mortem. However, while he confirmed that the examination was done, he said the results had not yet been communicated to him. During the second call after 4 pm, he explained that the Officer in Charge of Crime who was out in the field would update him later in the afternoon. As such he promised to relay the results to Stabroek News before press time but did not do so.
Relatives had claimed that the sickly woman left home to visit a doctor on Tuesday afternoon. The relatives had noted that she would often make her doctor’s appointments alone. However, after she did not return home on Tuesday evening, they began to search for her and a missing person’s report was filed at the Albion Police Station.
The woman’s body was discovered floating in the Albion Estate Drainage Canal located next to the Albion Road around 5 pm on Wednesday.
There was blood around the woman’s mouth when the body was discovered in the water.
