Eagles edged Pacesetters 96-95 in their U23 divisional clash, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League Championship continued on Wednesday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.
Trailing 67-64 heading into the final period, the visitors secured the hard-fought victory in the presence of a small crowd, outscoring the home side 32-28.
Prior to the dramatic conclusion, the hosts took the initial lead, as the first stanza concluded at 18-17.
However, Eagles responded in the second quarter, netting 22 points while restricting Pacesetters to 17 points to enter the halftime break ahead at 39-35.
The seesaw nature of the contest continued in the third period with Pacesetters outscoring Eagles 32-25 to enter the final period in control at 67-64, in the process, setting up its eventual conclusion.
Shamar Huntley was the primary threat for Eagles with an impressive 30 points. He was aided by the duo of Nickosie Allicock and Sherland Gillis, scorers of 21 points apiece. Adding an invaluable 11 points was the ever-improving Somesh Dhanram.
On the other side, George Yearwood top-scored with a mammoth 34 points, while Kwesi Roberts, Kashief Liverpool and Josiah Daniels added 14, 13 and 12 points each. Supporting with eight points each were Roger John and Quincy DosSantos.
Meanwhile, University of Guyana (UG) Trojans mauled Sonics 111-30. Jabari Joseph led the rout with 24 points, with Jahleel Young the next best scorer on 16 points. Assisting with 12, 12 and 11 points each were Alaistair Lewis, Darrol Williams and Kadeem Peterkin. For the loser, Denzil Logan netted 15 points, while Jamaine Booker added 10 points.
The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of group matches.
