Part Two of the Champion of Champions Dominoes competition featuring the country’s top teams will get cracking today from 1pm at the Green City Restaurant and Bar, Lot `H’ Durban and Vlissingen Roads.
The competition is a collaboration between Mark `Jumbie’ Wiltshire, Organising Secretary of the Georgetown Domino Association (GDA) and Shemar Trucking Service whose Managing Director Duean Boston recently handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum of money to Wiltshire at the company’s location.
According to Wiltshire, most of the country’s top teams have been invited to participate in the competition which carries total prize monies in excess of $200,000 along with trophies.
Wiltshire, who has been one of the stalwarts of the game and someone who has been among the persons responsible for the meteoric rise in popularity of the sport, said that a number of teams have been given automatic qualification including All Seasons, C7, C6, Gold For Money, All Players, Phantom, Turning Point, Gangsta, Mix-up, Spartans, Providence, Thunder, Lions, OPKO, Transport and Angels among others.
Among those invited are: Bank of Guyana, GGMC, Sunflower, Top Gun, Orange Walk, Strikers, Masters, Rockets, Linden and Bartica.
The winning team will receive $175,000 and a trophy while the second and third placed teams will take home $75,000 and $35,000 respectively.
The Most Valuable Player of the Final will be awarded $5000. Among the other sponsors on board are: All Seasons Racing Service, Big Boss Trucking Service and Boston Pawn Shop.
All GNDA rules will be in effect, while Bar-B-Cue and drinks will be sold throughout the day
