Thirty-eight trucks are due to be delivered next week for the manganese mining project in the north west, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI).
This was communicated to the residents of the Matarkai sub-region of Region One, Barima Waini at a community meeting in Arakaka on Saturday.
Company Secretary of the Guyana Manganese Incorporated (GMI) company, (rtd.) Major General, Norman McLean updated residents on the expansion of the Matthews Ridge-based company’s operations.
Referring to the 38 trucks, he signalled that work was increasing and that there 554 various vacancies to be filled. The Company Secretary said, “A glorious opportunity awaits you” adding there would jobs available for equipment operators, technicians, mechanics and support staff, along with training opportunities.
GMI, a Bosai subsidiary is running the manganese project. The company’s Matthews Ridge operations represent an investment of “some US$500 million” according to McLean. Exporting of the metal used in the production of high-tech equipment is on schedule to start by the end of 2019, DPI said.
