A Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara (ECD) woman is now dead after the car in which she was travelling crashed into utility poles along the Bee Hive Public Road yesterday afternoon.
The deceased woman has been identified as Keiolla Fortune-Thomas, 27, who was being driven by a police constable when the accident occurred.
The police constable, who resides at Supply, Mahaica, ECD, was not named by the police force.
In a statement to the press, police said the constable was reportedly driving the car,
PWW 5851, at a fast rate and lost control and collided with two utility poles situated along the road. A part of the car was subsequently submerged in a nearby trench.
As a result of the impact, Fortune-Thomas sustained serious injuries to her body and was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital for medical attention. However, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The constable, who suffered minor injuries, also received medical attention at the facility and was discharged. He consented to a breathalyser test and it found no alcohol content in his breath. He is in custody assisting with the investigation, the police noted.
